The brynmill angling club fished a match here on the match lake fishing was slow in cold conditions

with 9lb being the best bag
top three rods were Brian Bevan 2nd Peter Spooner and 3rd Dave Gough

yesterday saw a big freeze with the only lake again ice free being the pleasure lake

the specimen lake is only a third ice free, with several carp anglers out on the boat today freeing up swims from ice

despite the cold weather peg 8 produced a 29lb carp and a 12lb ghostie and a few small bream and brent who's fishing off the old cabin peg 1 has landed 6 carp between 11 and 19lb last night and today

if anybody wants to fish white springs it's strongly advisable to phone first to find out how much of the lakes are fishable due to icy conditions and how many pegs are actually available(to save a wasted journey)

the telephone number can be found on the new web site http://www.whitespringsfisheries.com

today thursday 29th dec

well last night and today we saw another big freeze, making all the lakes become totally frozen over

including the pleasure lake

there's an inch and half covering some of the lakes, so tomorrow friday fishing will be doubtfull

you will need to ring the fishery to check the lake status,

friday morning with a down pour of rain all night the ice had totally cleared, pegs 1 and 8 both producing several carp today with both pegs seeing 20lb plus carp on the banks, with a 19lb 10oz mirror being landed at 4pm today on sweetcorn

here's today's report mon 2nd jan

the pleasure lake had lots of anglers on it ,with a 10lb 4oz mirror caught first chuck to a pole, however today this lake was slower than normal

the best result of the day came from the canal lake with 12year old liam
it was a pleasure to see liam's face when weighing his bag off peg two of the canal lake

liam banner-timothy of pontypool had never fished a pole before and was keen to try out his new xmas pressie, half way through the day brian the winner of the xmas brynmill match posted above took time out from his fishing to do a little coaching for half of hour, (brian was fishing on the pleasure lake but strolled onto the canal lake to check how it was fishing)

these paid dividends for liam as he had never ever had a double figure bag before and his final bag weight was 22lb's, his father was pleased that brian who he had never met before helped liam with some useful tips in showing him how to use the pole correctly, liam had been using sweetcorn, pellet paste and magot

the last fortnight has seen so much mixed weather the fishing has been slow, sun 15th there were two matches both fished hard in cold wet windy conditions

however sun 22nd just gone the match saw 7 bags in the 20 pound mark
results as follows 54-10 oz top bag for howard green of greens tackle

1st howard green 54-10 peg 13

2nd lee werret 48-8 peg 18

3rd stan crawley 39-8 peg 9

4th ian exall 36-6 peg 7

5th bob giles 27-10 peg 5

the specimen carp lake had been pretty quite as well since the 31lb 12oz came out for llandelio angler paul until
Dave Moore from Haverfordwest put in a visit his last outing being early october

Dave fishing off peg 8 for a day session only landed 3 fish at 26lb, 22lb 4oz and a 6lb

bookings for our next match, which is this sunday on the canal lake can be made by ringing the fishery

sun 5th feb there was a club from aberglais who fished a match at white springs on the match lake

given that the lake had been frozen for 3 days but had cleared for the match the results weren't that bad

top rod was off peg 14 martin rees 29lb

second was brian prothero 15lb peg 11

but best result of the day went to 14 year old Adam Toomey fishing his second ever match he came 3rd beating 10 others with a 14lb 8oz bag off peg 9

the carp are doing well as well
mid week a angler smashed his personal best on two accounts
he was frozen off so he shot home for the night and left his bivvy behind save resetting up the next day, then mid week two days later after the thaw he returned but only for a day session as it was his 35th birthday and he had a party to go to in the evening
during this sess he caught 4 carp over 20 lb he had never had 4 doubles in one sess before and he also produced a new pb at 28lb 4oz

then yesterday a angler was gutted he decided to do a chip shop run for a few of the boys fishing, he asked the guy on the next peg to keep an eye on his rods, when he returned they had landed a 30lb 4oz on his rod

to top it all if that was not bad enough this morning he was dying for a shit and dashed up the hill and on returning he had picked up a 22lb mirror which was almost at the net

both carp were off peg one on black and peach flavoured bollies

white springs has several match lakes and organises open matches regularly which are run on a golden peg basis as well as prizes on the day

last sunday, there was a match on which was poorely attended because there was a rugby match on in wales the same day, which the old man had forgot about when planning lol

anyway the match still went ahead

prior to sunday the lakes had been frozen over all week but had cleared by the friday afternoon

the weather was kinder than it had been it was cold but not too cold and the lakes were ice free

the match was on the main match lake, the group agreed prior to starting the match, to make the match shorter so they were able to watch the match in the fishery bar, so the bag weights could have been better as the event was a shorter period than normal, top three results

1st Colin Rees (Merthyr) 39-14-0 skimmers and small carp on pole with pellets and maggots fished to the island from peg 9.

2nd Kevin Geetch (Cardiff) 26-5-0

3rd Stan Crowley (Cardiff Nomads) 24-8-0.

at present looking at the dairy there's 12 booked into the next match total places available 26

ring the fishery direct to book and if you require breckfast before starting this needs to be pre booked when booking a peg

sunday's match on the match lake was fished in hard cold conditions, it was very windy and the conditions wern't pleasant

but that didn't stop howard green of green's tackle from producing the business, with a comfortable win of 51lb off peg 13

peg 9 produced 2nd place for ian exell with 26lb

and bob giles was 3rd on peg 22 with 20lb 8oz
